Behind the Scenes of HAuNTcon: An Exclusive Interview with Leonard Pickel

Haunted Attraction and National Tradeshow ConventionIn Episode 8 of HaunTopic Radio we get a behind-the-scenes interview about HAuNTcon with the “Haunt Godfather” and Owner Leonard Pickel. Leonard is the co-founder of the Haunted Attraction Magazine, Consultant at Hauntrepreneurs.com, and a list of achievements that I couldn’t fit on this page. Come on…he’s been around the Haunt Industry for over 35 years! But we’ll have more on Leonard in another episode, we had to cut it in half. The next episode with Leonard Pickel will include his insights on Building a Haunt and Things to Know Before You Get Into the Haunt Industry. So Subscribe to The Haunter’s Toolbox to Get The Next Episode Straight to Your Inbox.

HAuNTcon will be at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on May 3th through May 7th. Visit over 20 Haunted Houses and get behind-the-scenes tours. Go to the Tradeshow and buy something. Dance in your favorite scary costume at the Costume party. Learn from the hours of education included with your admission.

Attending HAuNTcon or any convention always provides plenty of value for the price of going. Think of these conventions as investments. The money you pay for the adventure to get there. The cost to get behind the velvet curtain and the comfortable hotel room. Food, drink, and entertainment with your haunt buddies. The props and accessories you’ll want to buy at the garage sales and endless vendor booths. Visiting all of the those Haunts behind-the-scenes and actually taking your time to walk through and take pictures. The education. The new relationships.

An investment.

National Haunter’s Convention: A Hearse Rally, Halloween Supplies, and a Wedding?

Halloween Show

In Episode 7 of HaunTopic Radio we interview Michael Bruner from The National Halloween, Horror, Haunted House, and Hearse Convention which will be held at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on May 4th, 5th, & 6th. He shares his insights on the show, what makes it different than the other conventions, and fills us in on who is getting married at the show!

I know we said that we would be releasing new episodes on the 6th, 16th, & 26th of each month; however, with it being the start of Convention Season- we just can’t seem to help ourselves. We will be keeping up with all the conventions and we will be releasing those as soon as we finish each one. So I guess you can call them bonus episodes. You won’t mind too much, right?

We WILL be covering other topics as soon as we push these Conventions out to you. If you’re not interested in the Conventions or Trade Shows, keep listening because we’ll be throwing in a few surprises to keep you satisfied. If you like this one, don’t forget to share it with your friends!

Halloween Shows & Haunt Conventions: Why You Need to Go and What’s the Difference?

Halloween Shows/Haunt ConventionsIn Episode 6 of HaunTopic Radio, we discuss Why It’s Important to go to Haunt and Halloween Events and maybe help you discover some shows you didn’t know about. We’re taking a few clips from the Transworld Haunt Show 2012 and a few other surprises along the way..

I made it back from the Transworld Halloween & Haunted Attractions Show and survived the Crazies at the Insane Shane Party. I spent Thursday night with my wife dancing with freaky characters (some small and some large) and recorded lots of video and audio for HaunTopic Radio from the Trade Room Floor on Friday & Saturday. Over the next few episodes we will be including all of our guests and friends we ran into at the show and highlighting some of the Topics that every Haunter should know about.

I also want to Thank all of my friends who met up with me at the party and show. I won’t list them all because I don’t want to forget anyone, but you all know who you are. It is way more important to meet your friends face-to-face than any facebook page any day! I hope to have all of you as guests on the show sometime so we can finish our conversations.

Here are some of the voices you will hear on Episode 6 of HaunTopic Radio:

Leonard Pickel: HauntCon & Hauntrepreneurs.com

Shane Dabbs: Insane Shane Party & Disturbia Haunted House

Grant Brott: Haunted House Start-Up

Dan Krein: Souls of the Foresaken

Michael Edwards: A Haunter’s Life & Brain Chow Studios

Michael Bruner: The National Haunter’s Convention

Matthew Flagler: Canadian Haunted Attraction’s Conference

West Coast Haunter’s Convention

ScaryVisions, dEdmonton, and HaunTopic….Oh My!

HaunTopic RadioThis is not a new episode of HaunTopic Radio…but an update of what has been going on and what we have planned for the upcoming months.

As you know. Darryl Plunkie from dEdmonton.com and myself have stepped into the world of podcasting and online radio. We created hauntopic.com and felt that we needed to take some of our experience and the experience of other Haunters and create an audio version for you to listen to at your convenience. We created HaunTopic Radio. There will soon be a series of episodes covering the Transworld Haunt & Halloween Show and all the friends I caught up with.

So we have ScaryVisions.com, dEdmonton.com, and HaunTopic.com. Where do you start?

Well, check out the list below and use it as a guideline to check out the stuff you feel is the most important to you; that way you can stay updated to ALL the happenings we will be organizing over the next year.

ScaryVisions:

  • Subscribe to The Haunter’s Toolbox. My FREE weekly newsletter that is packed full of my Top Articles and each time I publish a new post it will go directly to your inbox. Yes…new HaunTopic Radio Shows too. There are some things I share in this newsletter that will not be on my facebook page or Twitter account. You can reply to any email to contact me directly. There might also be a surprise gift in there for all new subscribers. (Your email address will not be shared with anyone.)
  • Add me as a friend on Facebook.
  • Like the ScaryVisions Fan Page.
  • Follow me on Twitter.
  • Check out all of the new videos I’m uploading to YouTube. I shot over 3 hours of footage from the TransWorld Halloween & Attractions Show.

dEdmonton:

HaunTopic:

  • Go to the HaunTopic.com website and see what’s new. We’ve put All the new episodes there, a few ways to share the shows, and we still have some good references to other Haunters and other websites you need to check out! We are redesigning the site and the new site will include better navigation, easy to find information, and a few other surprises.
  • Like the HaunTopic Fan Page on Facebook.
  • Follow HaunTopic on Twitter.
  • Join our Linked In Group
  • Subscribe to HaunTopic Radio on iTunes. If you have an MP3 player or Smartphone, this is the best way to stay current with all the episodes. A new episode about every 10 days!

These links should keep you busy while we sort through all of our audio from Transworld and we get a few more episodes released. We talked of having a new episode every 2 weeks and we had been putting one out every week. We decided to pick 3 dates out of the month and publish on those days. The 6th, 16th, and 26th. I think Darryl has an obsession with the number 6…at least they’ll be easy to remember and give us a few extra days to edit our audio. We won’t make the 16th this month but Subscribe and Follow us and we’ll let you know as soon as we have a new one.

So for the next few months we will updating the HaunTopic Website, creating new segments and episodes of HaunTopic Radio, and still keeping an eye on the Haunt Industry. I have about 15 interviews to publish. Some good Topics to cover. And new segments like Show & Meet-Up Updates, Current News, and covering different creepy musical genres. We will try to stay consistent and add new segments slowly. We want to get this show molded, peeled, and applied for you….where everyday is Scary…
